It all happened in the 2000’s.  With only 3 rusk-pans my business grew to what and where I am today.

After completing school and university education in the 1990’s, our family grew with the birth of our two boys in 2001 and 2003.  I changed my profession to full time mom and decided to start my own business in 2003.  While I missed my work as Information Specialist and later Teacher, I focused my energy on raising my boys and building my own business.  However, the financial realities of starting a new venture and doing this alone, motivated me to work harder… even if it was, at first, to have enough money for a cappuccino with a friend in a coffee shop.

As a young girl on our family farm in Mpumalanga, my mother Delien taught me at an early age to bake proper rusks and cookies.  So that’s it – I was going to start baking.  I soon received numerous positive feedback on my baking and this motivated me.  It started with humble equipment and baking volumes, but developed into a modern bakery facility with mechanical mixers and ovens to take my business to the next level.  Today my products are distributed by the famous “Ouma Rooi”-brand as well as a substantial number of shops in the province.

During 2007 I launched a Gift-box selection that has since grew to a substantial part of my business.  My rusks and cookies form part of the box-content and created a further outlet for my products.  

Today, almost 20 years after the launch of Hannah’s, I enjoy every moment of this journey with my husband and two boys, now young men.  In faith I can live my passion for creativity on a daily basis.
