It all started in 1939 when Danie Theron (first generation) founded his farming business on the Farm Klipkraal. With his untimely death in 1946, his wife Hannie Theron raised their two children alone on the farm, while preparing their only son, Danie Theron (second generation) to take over the business. Under Danie and Delien Theron the business grew to a substantial maize and cattle operation between the towns of Trichardt, Bethal and Kriel. During 2003 their eldest daughter Igna and her husband Ryno Beukes (now the third generation on the farm) joined the business with the objective to be aligned with modern farming practices and a new grain marketing dispensation (Safex) after the termination of the Grain Board. In 2018 Danie Theron died at the age of 71. Shortly afterwards, Ryno and Igna Beukes joined forces with Danie and Delien’s second daughter Hannie and her husband Pierre Theron. In June 2020 the new farming entity, Grainfields, consolidated the agricultural businesses of these two families into a single and larger unit. This exciting new structure created opportunities to expand and grow the business with humble roots in 1939. Since inception of Grainfields, Ryno and Igna’s eldest son, Ryno junior, joined the family business and is already injecting new energy and passion into the operation.

Danie was born on Farm Klipkraal and passed away in 2018. He was an ambitious farmer who will be remembered for the relationships he maintained with his neighbours and his role in the larger farming community. Delien retired and moved to the beautiful Paarl / Franchhoek Valley in the Boland. Their example remains the fibre that keeps the family a strong unit until today.
